In July, 2011, three month old Marcello Vasquez was struck and killed while resting in the stroller his mother was pushing when a car jumped the curb of a crowded sidewalk during the Downtown L.A. Art Walk. The distraught Vasquez family turned to the Beverly Hills, California law firm, Rosen Saba, LLP.

In March, 2014, with the help of Jonathan Dennis, we settled the Vasquez’ case against the City of Los Angeles and the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk. As part of the settlement agreement we sought, the City and Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk agreed to install a permanent plaque in memorial to baby Marcello Vasquez.

The plaque was recently installed in the children’s play area of the Spring Street Park in downtown Los Angeles, only a few hundred feet from the site of Marcello’s tragic accident. For myself and Mr. Dennis, the plaque “represents the most satisfying aspect of the settlement, as it will forever celebrate baby Marcello’s life.” In commemoration of the young life that was tragically cut short, the Vasquez family and our law firm will hold a brief dedication ceremony in front of the plaque on Wednesday, February 4, 2015.

The dedication ceremony will take place on February 4, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Spring Street Park, located at 426 S. Spring Street in Downtown Los Angeles. Along with Marcello’s family members and our firm, Los Angeles City Council Members, members of the local art community and press have been invited to attend. Marcello’s 2012 memorial service drew several hundred mourners, who gathered to support the Vasquezes and who called for stronger traffic safeguards to be put in place to protect pedestrians.
