On Saturday, June 11, 2016, attorney Ryan Saba of Rosen Saba, LLP will be presenting at the Orange County Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Symposium. During this prestigious full day seminar, Mr. Saba will be speaking on the hot topic of liability risks and benefits of hiring employees versus independent contractors in the California workplace. During the one hour session, entitled “Yours, Mine or Ours? Recent Updates on Joint Employment and Independent Contractor Misclassification Issues in California”, Mr. Saba, along with attorney Kevin Ruf, Esq., will discuss the challenges California employers face in reducing and managing risks while at the same time maximizing productivity and maintaining an attractive workplace.

During his presentation, Mr. Saba will delve into how the use of sub-contractors, temporary staffing leased employees and independent contractors — in addition to (and sometimes in lieu of) a regular workforce — can be tools to meet workplace challenges and how a flexible workforce, if not implemented properly, can cause extensive and unanticipated liability. The presentation will explore recent cases and statutory developments in this area of law, highlight the “red-flag” issues that can lead to joint employer liability and liability for misclassification of independent contractors, and provide practical advice on how to litigate these matters as individual and class action claims.

This Labor and Employment Law Symposium qualifies for 5.25 hours of MCLE credit.
